Traditional wooden maize mortar make a classic decor piece. Hand carved in Zimbabwe the mortar where used by the woman in and around their homestead. Traditionally used  in preparing or grinding grains and seeds (maize, sorghum, coffee, peanuts, etc.), the wooden maize mortar are solid and deceptively heavy. Each with its own unique markings and character. Small mills now replace this manual method in many African communities. Use as a decor piece, planter or display item.
